Lea Søndergaard Larsen
Bodhrán player
MUSICAL STYLE
Lea tastefully blends Irish grooves and Nordic sensibility with Scottish energy in her bodhrán playing. Based in Glasgow but originally from Denmark, she holds a first-class honours degree in Irish music, which has shaped her unique sound and creative approach to traditional and folk music.
"Lea Søndergaard Larsen, for me, has to be one of the most interesting bodhran players I’ve heard. Judicious use of fingers and pressure had her instrument running up and down scales and inserting little melodic tweaks that brightened up the overall sound no end." - Bob Leslie, Celtic Music Radio
"I would like to point out the absolutely mind blowing bodhran work of Lea Søndergaard Larsen. This instrument is often in the background and only comes to the fore in the hands of absolute icons like John Joe Kelly and Martin O’Neill. But now Lea joins the selected few who master this very demanding instrument and raise its profile." - Celtbrit Folkfan
SESSION MUSICIAN
Featured on recordings such as "Beatha" by Tina Jordan Rees, "Strands" by Amy Laurenson (Jump to "Music" to explore both) and Brand Scotland/Hen Hoose Burns night advert.
Lea also lends her services to a number of professional ceilidh bands such as Glenpark, Stroma, and Jim Jam to name a few, and is always prepared for short notice dep work.
Past colaborations with internationally visiting artists include Brad Reid (CA, fiddle) and Autentica (LUX, multi).

TRADITIONAL MUSIC SESSIONS
You will find Lea hosting sessions throughout Glasgow on a regular basis. Traditional music sessions are gatherings of musicians playing a variety of tunes, some times broken up by a song and with space for chat between playing. It's an authentic way of experiencing live music without the performance aspect of a ticketed event.
If you are insterested in a more thorough description of what a session is this article by Hamish Napier describes it brilliantly.
Lea can be found regularly hosting sessions at:
-
Stravaigin
Sundays 2pm-4.30pm
and on a semi-regularly basis at:
-
The Lismore
Mondays 8pm - 11pm -
Curlers Rest
Thursdays 8pm - 11pm
Keep an eye on Lea's Instagram stories for other irregular session spots, or get in touch to enquire about starting a session at your venue!
